Today we learned of a small injury scare for Phillies starter Cole Hamels just weeks before Spring Training opens on February 12. Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that during the offseason, Hamels was shut down after experiencing shoulder soreness.
Salisbury has a quote from Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr.:
We shut him down for a couple of weeks, but he’s fine now. He was being proactive more than anything else, which is good. We backed him off and slowed him down, but he’s back throwing now and doing fine. He’s had no complaints
Let's hope this is really nothing. The Phillies have a history of saying "it's really nothing" in regard to some injuries and it really turned out to be something. A healthy rotation is key for the Phillies in 2013.
