Another piece of the puzzle is the Phillies' seeming refusal to bring up young players because then they will start their "clock" as far as service time. I think this is a ridiculous way to decide who should or shouldn't be brought up! If the player shows any kind of promise, he should be brought up. If he continues to produce at the MLB level, when he is ready to be paid, you pay him. If not, you cut him loose. The Phillies way overpaid on Ryan Howard and we see the bind that has left them in. Why not bring up the young players while they don't cost much and see what they have? Oh, I forgot, that would make sense!
