It was a whirlwind day for the Phillies, who had to watch as their manager was let go and an interim quickly took the reins. Perhaps things weren't all together in their heads on Friday, but they also had to deal with Zack Greinke.
The Phillies (53-68) take on the Los Angeles Dodgers (71-50), as the Dodgers try to continue their winning ways. They have one of their best on the mound.
Kyle Kendrick (10-9, 4.48 ERA) gets the start for the Phillies. Kendrick struggled in his last start against the Nationals, allowing six runs - four earned - on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Kendrick faced the Dodgers on June 30, allowing four runs in six innings in a loss. In his career against the Dodgers, Kendrick is 5-5 with a 7.36 ERA. At Citizens Bank Park, he is 33-29 with a 4.37 ERA.
The Phillies will face left-hander Clayton Kershaw (11-7, 1.88 ERA). Kershaw allowed two runs - one earned - on three hits in eight innings in his last start against the Rays, an 8-2 Dodgers win. Kershaw last faced the Phillies in July 2012, allowing one run in eight innings. In his career against the Phillies, Kershaw is 0-4 with a 4.31 ERA. At Citizens Bank Park, he is 0-2 with a 5.96 ERA.
