TODAY'S GAME IS THREATENED BY T-STORMS AND SHOWERS. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR ANY FURTHER UPDATES.
Yesterday was not a good day for the Phils as they were shut out by the Pirates 5-0. Sean O'Sullivan improved himself a bit, allowing two earned runs on four hits in four innings against the Bucs. The Phillies' bats were quiet, however, failing to make a mark on the scoreboard. As the Phils enter the last two weeks of spring training, the organization and coaching staff will be looking very carefully into everyone's play. Today, the Phillies will host the Baltimore Orioles on St. Patrick's day at Bright House Field. On the mound will be Kyle Kendrick (0-0, 7.20 ERA) and Brian Matusz (0-0, 3.00 ERA).
Kyle Kendrick will be making just his third start this spring (third overall appearance) today as he takes on the Orioles. His last time on the mound was back on March 6th against the Yankees, where he was hit for one earned run on three hits in as many innings. In five innings this spring, Kendrick has allowed four earned runs and walked four batters. With the regular season two weeks away, Kendrick should be getting more work in as the experimental players have mostly come and gone.
Brian Matusz is making just his second start today as he takes on a Phillies lineup that has struggled most of the spring, but as of late have come around. Matusz last took the mound on March 11th against Boston and pitched two perfect innings, collecting three strike outs in the process. Used solely as a reliever last season, Matusz is looking to get back into the starting rotation.
