Two days after the Phillies re-signed RHP Jerome Williams to a one-year, $2.5M deal - the team made two offseason moves.
This afternoon the Phillies re-signed OF Grady Sizemore to a one-year, $2M contract. Sizemore went .253/.313/.422 in 60 games with the Phillies this season. Hitting five home runs (three with Boston) and driving in 27 RBI (15 with Boston), Sizemore stands as a bench player who can make the occaisional start as well as a solid pinch hitter late in games. Sizemore's one-year contract includes performance bonuses that have not been reported yet.
Along with the signing of Sizemore, the Phillies also avoided arbitration with LHP Cesar Jimenez by signing him to a one-year deal. Jimenez, 29, pitched in 16 games with the big club last year, putting up a remarkable 1.69 ERA in 16 innings pitched. This move gives the Phillies a great arm in Jimenez back in the bullpen for at least 2015.
