Joe Blanton took the hill tonight against the Rockies, looking to take this series from them and earn his seventh win on the season. It would be a wild ballgame tonight, especially the ending.
The Phils scored first this evening in the first inning. Hunter Pence grounded out to score Juan Pierre from third.
Wilin Rosario homered to dead center in the second inning to score Jordan Pacheco and Chris Nelson, giving the Rockies a 3-1 lead.
Michael Martinez erased that lead with a three run homer of his own, a dinger to right center, scoring Placido Polanco and John Mayberry, Jr. 4-3 Phillies in the bottom of the second.
More home runs went flying tonight, the third coming from Michael Cuddyer in the third inning, and Chris Nelson sent a solo shot of his own in the fourth. 5-4 Rockies.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jimmy Rollins doubled to right field to score Mayberry, tying up the game at 5 a piece.
Joe Blanton's final line from tonight: 7 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 6 K. Antonio Bastardo came in for the eighth inning and pitched a scoreless inning.
In the ninth, Jonathan Papelbon came in in a non-save situation. He allowed a double to Rosario before intentionally walking Jason Giambi. After that, Dexter Fowler singled, scoring Rosario and giving the Rockies a 6-5 lead.
In every game this season in which the Phillies were trailing after the seventh inning, they have not won a game. Hunter Pence tied this ballgame in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI double which scored Ty Wigginton. After intentionally walking Carlos Ruiz, Shane Victorino hit an infield single, loading the bases with two outs for Polanco.
Well, this was a weird ending. An error by Todd Helton lead to Polanco being safe at first with a walk-off infield single. Phillies win, 7-6.
They'll look for the sweep tomorrow with Vance Worley on the mound.
