Agreed. I think the only way the Phillies trade a starting pitcher like Cole Hamels is if they give up on getting him to sign an extension. I don't think there is any chance the Phillies are interested in trading Cliff Lee. He just happened to be pitching when the scout came to see someone else (Victorino? Pierre? Someone else?)
At any rate since the Break the Phillies have won 4 out of 6, winning the two series. If they continued that through the rest of the season, they would end up with 85 or 86 wins. They wouldn't have to do much better than that to be right back in the race for at least one of the wild card spots. Washington has not hit a bad stretch yet, and it is not unreasonable to assume that somewhere along the line they will. If that happens, and the Phillies keep winning-- who knows?
