After being known as the Reading Phillies for over 46 years, the Philadelphia Phillies Double-A affiliate club announced today that they would be changing their name on November 4th.
The new team name? The Reading Phillies will now go as the Reading "Fightin Phils". And yes, their new mascot is an ostrich. The new name is aimed to pay homage to their affiliation with the Phillies club for over 46 years.
"Our relationship with the Phillies is stronger than ever and the Fightin Phils is a unique way to enhance our ties with Philadelphia even more," said Fightin Phils General Manager Scott Hunsicker. "The Fightin Phils reaffirms our bond with the Phillies in a creative, unique way."
Along with the new name, the club will undergo a transformation that includes new uniforms, logos, and identity program.
