After dumping more than half of their players in a pathetic attempt to rebuild their sh***y team, the Miami Marlins have reportedly made an acquisition to make up for it. According to Sirius XM's Craig Mish, the Marlins have agreed to a contract with former Phillie Juan Pierre.
Pierre, 35, signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies last off season, but played in the big leagues the entire season. Although Pierre hit .307/.351/.371 with 37 stolen bases for the Phillies in 2012, he started 98 of the 107 games he appeared in. It's arguable that Charlie Manuel didn't use Pierre as much as he should have. Not only does Pierre have the ability to lead off the game with a hit, he also has the ability to swipe bases. Charlie Manuel didn't see that potential and decided to stick Jimmy Rollins (.250/.316/.427) in the lead off spot where he hit more pop ups than one can count to.
With the Marlins signing Pierre, the Phillies lose another potential outfielder/bench player to free agency. Pierre has versatility and will most likely be an every day-starting LF for the Marlins. Pierre previously played with the club, then known as the Florida Marlins, from 2003-2005. Pierre attributed to their 2003 World Series title.
